A rainbow spectrum can be a metaphor for many things, not least how our roles and our individual strengths are all an integral part of the whole team context.

Our watch system has been developed to expand the traditional watch system of teams working on a sailing ship – incorporating the key leadership roles in the boats, as well as the expedition facilitation team and within our organisation. These levels match the capabilities and responsibilities we gain through our training pathways. All trainees including Mates and Skippers, are asked to volunteer in areas of their strengths (to begin with)…
Everything from our filing system to roles on the boats and our expedition responsibilities are oriented around the following spectrum:

White – administration and record keeping
Red – equipment and logistics
Orange – safety and emergency response
Yellow – program objectives and resources
Green – food, hygeine and sustainable practices
Blue – navigation, curriculum and training
Purple – lookout, network and organisational liaison
Black – expedition leadership, management
